A 7.0 in IELTS is the score many universities and employers ask for. Six weeks is a realistic preparation window if your English is already a solid B2. If you are at B1, six weeks will teach you the exam but will not add a whole level, and it is better to build the language first. Here is how our six-week IELTS course is structured and how you can mirror it on your own.
Week 1: diagnosis
Take a full mock test under timed conditions. Not to feel good, but to find out where you lose marks. Most students at B2 have one weak paper that drags the overall band down. Find yours.
Week 2: reading and listening technique
These two papers reward technique as much as language. Learn the question types, practise skimming for structure before reading for detail, and train yourself to keep moving when you do not know a word. For listening, practise predicting the kind of answer (a number, a name, a place) before the audio starts.
Week 3: writing task 2
The essay is where most candidates lose the most. Work on a clear structure: a position in the introduction, two developed body paragraphs, a conclusion that does not just repeat. Practise paraphrasing the question without copying it. Get every essay marked by someone who knows the band descriptors.
Week 4: writing task 1 and speaking part 2
Task 1 is about describing data or a process accurately and selecting what matters. Speaking part 2, the long turn, is about speaking for two minutes with structure. Record yourself. Listen back. Most students speak for 50 seconds the first time.
Week 5: full mock and fixing
Second full mock, timed. Compare with week 1. Spend the rest of the week on the paper that improved least.
Week 6: timing and calm
No new material. Short daily practice, one more mock, and a review of your personal error list. Sleep. Candidates who arrive tired lose marks they already had.
